Comparison of two percutaneous tracheostomy techniques, guide wire dilating forceps and Ciaglia Blue Rhino: a sequential cohort study
INTRODUCTION To evaluate and compare the peri-operative and postoperative complications of the two most frequently used percutaneous tracheostomy techniques, namely guide wire dilating forceps (GWDF) and Ciaglia Blue Rhino (CBR). METHODS A sequential cohort study with comparison of short-term and long-term peri-operative and postoperative complications was performed in the intensive care unit...
متن کاملPercutaneous tracheostomy: a guide wire complication.
We report an unusual complication of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy, in which the guide wire became lodged in the bronchial tree. The assistance of an expert bronchoscopist resulted in successful removal of a fractured J wire with no adverse sequelae for the patient. A subsequent incident has given insight into the mechanism of damage to the guide wire.
متن کاملComplications of percutaneous dilating tracheostomy
We prospectively collected data on perioperative complications of CBR from February 2000 to February 2003; in this period we performed 128 percutaneous dilating tracheostomies with the CBR technique. The complication rate was extremely low (Table 1). Although we must mention that we considered bleeding to have taken place only when blood loss was ‘guesstimated’ to be more than 20 ml, lifethreat...

متن کاملGuide-Wire Assisted Endobiliary Forceps Biopsy Sampling
Biopsy procedures for sampling of the proximal bile duct during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) can be technically difficult. Insertion of biopsy forceps into the bile duct is not an easy task and can cause some adverse events. In addition, controlling and positioning the forceps can be difficult during targeted sampling of a designated area. If we could easily insert biop...
